talk to your union rep. seriously.

tell them everything you told us. ive been in a union before, and what i appreciated about that, was the union rep backing me up, putting the authority in their place when they pulled shit on me, and the miranda rights-ish legal statement we were able to recite to protect ourselves in a shady situation "..hereby requesting my right to no further questioning or discussion until my union rep is present." among other things...
but if you are concerned ( and this list sounds a bit excessive esp things that were never brought up previously from a long time ago, not giving you a chance to improve...she is telling you now, but i dunno, why wait so long after it happened?

my advice is to talk to your union rep about it. it is your best bet to have it somewhat documented should anything go down.

and, maybe its a blessing in disguise if it doesnrt work out, maybe the universe is trying to tell you something. this type of employment gave you a nervous breakdown once before? sending you to recover in a yurt and working a nice job in a bookstore. (lovely, one of my favorite jobs i held was at a bookstore... sigh :) )

i wish you luck. i urge you to scour the earth for openings at libraries, and/or find a really kick ass bookstore to work in.

good luck. :)

(mercury is just beginning another 3 week retrograde today) dunno how much you invest in astrology but thought it worthy a mention...

A few years ago I had a nervous breakdown after fighting a long battle, with my union rep urging me on, against a sociopathic boss and a corrupt university. I moved up north, moved into a yurt and spent two years working part-time at a used bookstore to recover. About a year ago, feeling healed, I took another office assistant type job at the county where I live (in Northern California). I had hoped to be long gone by now, hopefully to the library to be a librarian, but the economy didn't cooperate. Today (about one month before my probationary period is up) my boss presented me with a three-page "list of concerns," mostly about things that she felt I didn't follow up on quickly enough. Some are legitimate. Some were a one-time occurence (ie a temporary worker -- not managed by me -- who made many, many mistakes as we found out later, who inserted some forms into a packet backwards, and I didn't catch them). Some go back to October and have never been brought up previously. Some are completely inaccurate. I am considering contacting my union in an informal way to just talk to someone about whether I should rebut this, but the idea is throwing me into a panic. I don't know if I can fight this. I don't know what she's doing. Given our current budget, if she didn't pass me on probation, she could never replace me, and we're short-staffed as it is. What the hell do I do? Should I contact my EAP before I have another nervous breakdown? Should I go to the union? Should I just ignore her knowing she pretty much has to pass me? What kind of game is she playing with me?
