My company just got rid of 11 people - they purged 2 departments and fired just about everyone...from peons to management. They were some of the only decent ones in the whole damn company and many of them had been here for years! What the fucK?

No kidding. I've been meaning to post my resume online and all that crap, but have been putting it off. Nothing to get the butt in gear like seeing your friends fired though.

it really really sucks -- it happened to me at a company that shall remain nameless. they were so brilliant that they went out of business. the first step in their demise was laying off the ENTIRE production team. HELLO?!? towards the end there were 4 directors/managers to any single employee. i saw all my friends get laid off on the same day. it was heartbreaking and scary all at the same time. within 3 months the rest of the staff arrived at work and were met with "as of 10am, we have no more money to pay you all" -- i had 3 weeks of vacation saved up and i never saw that OR all my outstanding expense reimbursements.

        UGLY!!

i hope it doesnt shake out the same for you...

Wow! I sure hope not. That's pretty dismal. We are headed in that direction though it seems. We seem to have more and more people being added to management and more workers leaving. Overall, in the past 6 months we've had about 10 to 15 people quit (at least) and this is a small company of barely more than 100 people. Now they have fired most of the data management team. I really have to wonder first if they know what the hell they are doing and second if I may be next! At least the group that was let go today received their 2 weeks severance pay...woo hoo! Wish me luck on my new job search - just in case of course.

definitely -- best of luck -- thankfully the economy is perking up a little from what i can tell. friends who were unemployed for years are getting jobs again. so at least you're not entering into the job market that way it was the last 2-3 years!!

Maybe you'll find a new job you like better and you can quit this lousey tribe!

I love this tribe even though I love my job. I have hated jobs in the past of course, and I just love to hear the kvetching. I sympathize!!

That would be nice. Thing is I don't hate my job that much - just some of the people, but I can live with that. The commute is what kills me. How can I be in a good mood at work when it takes me 1 to 2 hours to travel the 25 miles to get there? Of course I wouldn't mind collecting unemployment for a while and looking for something closer to home. I guess it's just wait and see for now.
