I have an interview at UPS for a seasonal position, so I guess I'm well on my way to being a job hater again!

Thanks. It took several years to realize Crohn's disease is for life. I heard an interview with a cancer survior once and he described life as being divided between Before Diagnosis (BD) and After Diagnosis (AD). I am fortunate the Crohn's has been under control in the last few years and I want it to stay that way!

I'm a multi-disciplined graphic designer/producer specializing in web design/development (yeah, I can do some PHP/JavaScript coding and I can hand-code HTML so I can produce semi-functional mockups), usability and information architecture. I can do print design as well, especially (but not limited to) ephemera and CD packaging. Ideal work would be with the music/entertainment biz. Primarily, I'm looking to hook up with a group of creative, cool people who are passionate and love what they do.

I am self-taught, so while I have read and studied extensively on the finer points of graphic design, I took an unconventional route and my pre-press/production experience is not quite as strong as it should be. But I am a quick learner and I am not afraid to ask questions. I am also reliable, hard-working, organized, detail-oriented and an enthusiastic team player.

Phew!

Good luck to you. I have a friend back in St.Louis who has Crohn's and I know it's a real struggle with health.

Keep up the search. I know you'll find something that suits you, pays your bills, and doesn't drive you too crazy.

What type of work are you looking for? If I see anything that works for you I'll pass it on.

Yeah, I think I was at that stage last year when I first got laid off. Enjoy it while it lasts! In my case, it was really very serindipitous because I was planning to quit, but the opportunity to draw unemployment and cobra was a real unexpected bonus. I put my energy into some hobbies and thinking about what I want to do with my life while looking for work.

But right now the money's almost gone and I'm really freaking out about making rent next month. I've been homeless before and I don't want to go there again. The most frustrating thing is because I have Crohn's, I really need health insurance for the meds, regular blood draws (to make sure the meds aren't killing me) and doctor's visits. And of course, because I'm a risk, the insurance companies are just raping me. I could probably go on being unemployed for another year if I didn't have that huge health care expense hanging around my neck.

I feel ya. It's a delicate balance between hating your job and hating being broke. I still prefer being broke, but only because I really hated my last job. And, I'm kind of enjoying the creativity and motivation that it takes me to find random ways to make money. The lack of a regular paycheck is sometimes stressful tho. I think I'm just going through a weird period where I just don't give a fuck about money. My time is far more valuable to me. I'm sure it won't last forever, but I quit my job in the spring and I've been scraping by happily ever since.

It's been a year since I was laid off from my old job (which I hated) and now I'm wishing I had that job back. It was sort of better hating it and being able to pay rent. Hmph!
