excellent. two follow up thoughts:
1. my old big boss used to chant, "we need to work smarter so we don't have to work harder..." hahahahahaaaaahjaha
2. my sister is pondering accounting vs. marketing and theorizes...'''marketing may satisfy you by making more important and strategic decisions, but either way these industries are so infestesed w/ b.s. that i might as well go w/ acctg where i can stick pretty much to the formula and MAKE FEWER DECISIONS. In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't make the work any less meaningul"
anyway thanks,
someday I will have a job and it might all make more sense (and I've got a damn good resume if anyone wants to hire in the SF bay).
"work"..........what a joke.

My new mantra for getting through the workday is now "Make Fewer Decisions". Strangely enough, upper management helped to come up with it.

About two months ago, our toolbag of a VP made a trip down so we had to have a managers' meeting and of course it was on my day off. At this utter waste of time, this smeg-stain asks all of us to perform this little activity. "I'd like you all to take 5 minutes to think about your job and then write down three words that describe it" he says. So I come up with some lame safe generic adjectives for my job that I hate. After about a minute (what happened to 5 minutes, dumbass?) he tells us that he won't ask us to share these with the group, then proceeds to tell us what he thinks is the best answer to his little conundrum. "The three words that I think best describe our jobs as managers," he smugly decrees "are 'Make... Good... Decisions'". You've got to be fucking kidding me. A sentance with only ONE adjective. Nice directions, asshole. What you really mean is make BETTER decisions, don't you ass-face?

Anyway, this whole "make better decisions" thing was a running gag between us for a couple of weeks. One fateful day, after getting bitched out for making the "wrong" decision a co-worker said, "we just need to make FEWER decisions, that's all". It turned out that he was right. After a few weeks of applying the Make Fewer Decisions philosophy, my job has become considerably more tolerable. I suggest you try it and see. Everyone that I've shared the MFD Philosophy has had nothing but positive results. Whenever there's a decision to be made, no matter how small, just repeat the mantra, "Make Fewer Decisions", and then do so whenever possible.

Let me know if you try it and how it works out.

Good luck,
